Dental Fillings

Over time, the structure of our teeth can become damaged due to exposure to certain foods and a lack of proper dental care. When this happens, the enamel begins to decay and patients can experience symptoms that include sensitivity to sweets or hot and cold food and drinks. Weakened enamel affects the structure of the teeth and ultimately leads to cavities.

This structural change is addressed through the use of dental tooth fillings, a common procedure at Valley Village Dental. Not only can a tooth filling help to reduce sensitivity, but it assists in restoring the structure of the tooth. Our team takes the utmost care when completing a dental filling and will begin by removing any decay from your tooth and cleaning the area.

Several types of materials can be used to fill the cavity including amalgam, a silver filling, or a composite material that matches the color of the tooth. We’ll discuss your options with you in detail, taking into account the location and size of the dental filling as well as your specific medical needs.

Drs. Michelle and James Grosleib aim to educate patients who have outdated dental fillings as well, as increased concerns about mercury are one of our highest priorities. At Valley Village Dental, we can remove old dental fillings and replace them with safe and durable materials that are completely metal-free.

Addressing tooth decay right away is essential to maintaining ideal oral health because if a cavity is left untreated, it can affect the root and create the need for more advanced procedures. Through regular visits, we can monitor any signs of tooth decay and also watch for indications of older dental fillings that are in need of replacement.

Your oral health is our top priority, and if we find that you’re in need of a dental filling, you can rest assured that the process will be comfortable from start to finish.

Teeth Cleaning

While brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing regularly are the foundational steps toward maintaining adequate oral health, it’s often not enough to keep the natural build-up of tartar and plaque at bay. That’s why the team at Valley Village Dental recommends a thorough teeth cleaning every six months or sometimes more often if your specific dental situation requires it.
Sometimes the thought of a teeth cleaning can bring on feelings of anxiety, but the group at Valley Village Dental go the extra mile to ensure your comfort from start to finish. Our team will gently clean your teeth and explain every step of the process so that you know exactly what to expect. Whether it’s your first teeth cleaning or you’ve been seeing us for years, you’ll come away with a beautiful smile and the confidence that your mouth is healthy.

Most of the time, it takes between 30 and 60 minutes to complete a teeth cleaning, but for some patients, additional treatment is needed to address advanced tartar and plaque. We offer scaling, root planing, and deep cleaning to mitigate the effects of gum disease and prevent any further deterioration of your teeth. Our equipment is state-of-the-art and includes ultrasonic options to clean hard to reach places, ensuring that we provide a deep clean each and every time.

At Valley Village Dental, our teeth cleaning services serve multiple purposes, as you’ll not only end up with a sparkling clean smile, but you’ll also stay one step ahead of tooth decay, gum disease, and more. Contact our office today to experience gentle and comprehensive care.

Dental Extractions

Getting a tooth pulled fifty years ago was far less comfortable than it is today, and at Valley Village Dental, we make dental extractions as easy as can be. Your specific oral needs might vary, and whether you’re undergoing an extraction to remove a tooth that’s beyond repair or to alleviate crowding, this straightforward procedure will offer immense amounts of relief.
Teeth that are excessively decayed can be very painful or become infected, and if your teeth are becoming crowded, it can actually jeopardize the rest of your mouth and even your jaw. Many adults also find that once their wisdom teeth begin to erupt, their overall dental health would greatly benefit from their removal.

Patients who are concerned about discomfort during a dental extraction will be pleased to know that Drs. Michelle and James Grosleib make every effort to offer an easy and painless procedure. We use a local anesthetic to ensure that the extraction itself does not cause any pain, and patients who are concerned about the process can also benefit from the use of sedation if desired.

Equally as important as the extraction in our office is the follow-up care that you complete at home. We recommend eating soft foods and resting to allow your mouth to heal properly, and our team is always available should you have any post-procedure questions.

Some patients find that after they have recovered, they want to explore the option of an implant to enhance their smile. The team at Valley Village Dental will discuss all of your needs and educate you on the best direction for your specific needs. We’re here to help you meet your dental goals with ease!

Root Canal Treatment

If dental decay goes untreated for too long, it can affect more than just the surface of your tooth. In some cases, a cavity becomes so extensive that it decays the inside of the tooth, often causing frequent pain and discomfort. In order to treat this condition and prevent it from affecting your quality of life, a root canal is necessary.
At Valley Village Dental, we know that the idea of a root canal can be concerning, but our team brings years of experience to each procedure, allowing you to be confident and comfortable. We start by drilling a small hole in the decaying tooth and clean out the pulp inside, the infected portion that can damage the jaw if left untreated.

After sealing the tooth with a custom-shaped crown, you’ll regain the ability to enjoy your favorite foods with ease and know that you’ve taken important steps toward improving your dental health. Our doctors recommend treatment at the first indication of excessive decay to avoid more serious health issues and we’ll discuss your options with you from start to finish.

Root canals can be an important part of maintaining proper oral health and it’s never too late to take steps toward achieving the smile of your dreams! Call our office today to schedule an appointment and experience the ultimate in patient care.

Digital Dental X-rays

One important aspect of optimal oral health is making sure that any concerns can be addressed as soon as possible. We can only see so much with the naked eye, which is why the team at Valley Village Dental utilizes digital x-rays to get an in-depth look at your entire mouth. This process exposes patients to far less radiation than traditional x-rays and allows us to locate any decay that’s between the teeth, identify bone loss, infections, and more.
Not only are digital x-rays safer for patients, but they dramatically cut down on the time you spend in our office. Exposure time is shorter and there are no chemicals used to develop the images, allowing you to get back to the rest of your day much sooner. With a digital x-ray, the image captured is available to view right away on our monitor and allows us to develop a treatment plan with you that meets your specific needs.

In most cases, we will use digital x-rays in three different parts of your mouth to provide us with the most amount of visual data possible. Panoramic x-rays allow our doctors to evaluate the health and integrity of your jaw and determine if there are any abnormalities with your sinus cavities and wisdom teeth.

Periapical x-rays offer a closer look at the root of each tooth to assess if any gum disease or infections are present, and bitewing images let us locate decay between the teeth and let us determine a proactive treatment plan moving forward. We’re firm believers that technology should be used to everyone’s advantage, and the use of digital x-rays allows everyone to have a better grasp on your dental health needs.

Night Guards

It’s fairly common for people to clench or grind their teeth subconsciously during the day, and even more usual for this to continue into the evening time while we sleep. This condition is called bruxism and while it might not seem like a major concern, over time it can lead to TMJ, the breakdown of your teeth’s enamel, and eventual tooth loss. At Valley Village Dental, we check for signs of bruxism and often recommend a night guard to help.
Night guards are custom made pieces of plastic that provide a cushion for your teeth. They are durable and comfortable, and instead of stopping the clenching and grinding motions, they work to absorb stress instead of it affecting your teeth. Due to their complex nature and the importance of a proper fit, we take our time when crafting your night guard to ensure it will be effective.

Individuals who are starting to experience negative daytime effects from bruxism will find that a night guard makes a world of difference, and while they tend to be a bit of an investment up front, they more than pay for themselves by protecting your mouth from additional damage down the line.

Contact our office today if you’ve been grinding or clenching your teeth at night – the sooner you can start using a night guard the stronger your teeth will remain.

Crowns

Just like any other part of the body, our teeth aren’t designed to function perfectly forever. Due to the regular American diet and a general lack of regular oral care, patients can end up with cavities that make eating downright painful. When a cavity has progressed too long and can no longer be fixed by a dental filling, a root canal is often recommended.
This process involves cleaning out the inside of one’s tooth, called the pulp, as it’s the material that’s infected and causing damage and pain. Once the tooth has been adequately cleaned, it must be sealed to prevent further issues. Acting almost like a complex cap, a crown is used to cover the tooth after a root canal and is customized to look incredibly natural using one of several materials.

The process of receiving a crown can sometimes be involved, as it must fit exactly right in order to keep bacteria from entering the now hollow tooth. At Valley Village Dental, our experienced team ensures that you’ll be comfortable from start to finish as we explain each step of receiving a new crown.

Bridges

Sometimes adults end up with missing teeth, due to advanced decay that led to an extraction, an injury, or even not being born with all of the permanent teeth they need. When several teeth are missing, rather than turning to dentures, our patients typically opt for a bridge. Instead of an expensive implant, a bridge holds an artificial tooth in place by attaching it to another tooth, offering a natural look at a lower cost than you might expect.
Dental bridges needed in a mouth
Bridges aren’t just cosmetic, however, as they can help to restore normal mouth function making it easier to eat your favorite foods. They can also help to prevent other teeth from moving into the open space. The staff at Valley Village Dental understands that moving forward with a bridge is a big commitment, so we’ll spend time with you discussing all of your treatment options to ensure this is the right one for your needs.

Crafting your customized bridge typically involves several visits, and each time we’ll walk you through every step so that you’re relaxed and know exactly what to expect. On average, bridges do require replacing every ten years or so, and you can rest assured that Drs. Michelle and James Grosleib will provide you with a bridge that’s durable and comfortable.

Dentures top and bottom as open mouth

Dentures

All too often, dentures are associated with one’s age, but they can actually be an incredibly valuable option for adults of all ages who have lost many of their natural teeth. Whether they have sustained a mouth injury or a lack of hygiene has caused extensive tooth decay, dentures are able to restore confidence in one’s smile and offer a new lease on life.
Today’s modern dentures are quite advanced and are custom-made with the option of removable complete sets or partial dentures when only a few teeth are missing. Dentures are typically made from acrylic materials and are designed to withstand daily wear and tear. Often times, patients find that they can eat and speak normally for the first time in many years after being fitted for these custom devices.

Drs. Michelle and James Grosleib have been crafting high-quality dentures for many years and will discuss your options with you first. They will then make an impression of your mouth and provide you with a test set to determine how they fit and feel. Once your trial dentures have been perfected, we will place an order for your final set. Upon delivery, our team will take time to review proper cleaning and care of your dentures as well as offer tips for adjusting to them.

Dentures can dramatically change your life and at Valley Village Dental, we’re excited to help you achieve a beautiful smile that lasts for years! Contact our office today if you’re interested in learning more about dentures.
