dentistry for children A common misconception about baby teeth is that if they develop tooth decay there is no need to worry because they will be replaced with a permanent adult tooth.

However, Drs. Michelle and James Grosleib want parents to know that proper dental health starts early.

Early decay in baby (primary) teeth can cause problems with the developing adult teeth as well. Losing a tooth prematurely due to tooth decay may also cause mispositioning of erupting teeth and orthodontic concerns.

We recommend that our pediatric patient’s and their parents:

  • Brush twice a day for 2 minutes, with an age-appropriate toothpaste
  • Use fluoride-free for children that are not yet able to expectorate and rinse
  • Assist your child with brushing and flossing until they are able to tie their shoes
  • Floss daily between each tooth, to remove bacteria that brushing does not reach
  • Wean children from the bottle and pacifier by age one
  • Limit the use of sippy cups and encourage “big kid” cups
  • Offer juice and milk only at meals, with only water between meals
  • Providing healthy snacks between meals
